Scorecard

Levante Cricket Club Levante CC v Madrid United CC on Sat 13 Sep 2014 at 13:00pm
Levante Cricket Club Won by 23 runs

Match report Levante and Madrid United played out a fantastic game of cricket at the VCG today that finally ended with Levante edging the game by 23 runs.

Nearly six hundred runs were scored in the days play and the result remained in the balance right until the penultimate over.

Levante batted first and amassed the formidable total of 301 for 9 from their 45 overs. Opener Rhys Morgan top scored with 89 and he was well supported by Usman Fareed who added 73 to the Levante cause.

In reply, Madrid United put in a gutsy effort to chase down such a huge total. At one stage when Imran and Humuyan were together it looked like the visitors may secure for an unlikely victory but when the Levante opening bowler Qasim returned for a second spell he got the vital wicket of Imran for 46 to swing the game back in Levante's direction.

With Imran's departure Humuyan tried his best to win the game single handedly for Madrid United. Shielding the tail enders from the bowling he looked to be winning the battle until he eventually holed out at mid off for a fantastic 146.

The final few Madrid United batsman found the ask of ten runs an over from the last five a stretch too much and Levante finally won the game by the closest of margins.

The game was played in excellent spirit and leaves Levante three points ahead of Madrid United in the table. The two sides clash again tomorrow in the eagerly anticipated re-match and the reward for the winner will be the runners up spot to Sporting Alfas in the ECCL Division One League.

Thanks to John Howden for the match report.
