Torrevieja v Levante Cricket Club Levante CC on Sat 29 Jun 2013 at 11am
Levante Cricket Club Won by 9 wickets

Match report Levante started their weekend double header at La Manga with a convincing 9 wicket win against Torrevieja.

Skipper Noon won the toss and decided to ask Torrevieja to have a bat. The home side got off to a decent start, reaching 19 without loss before the Levante bowlers took control of the game. The breakthrough came when Pilkington bowled Talbot and then Richard Graham had Alger caught at slip by Pilkington. At the other end Miller was making his debut for Levante and put in a solid 7 overs with no luck in taking any wickets. Tivey took two wickets in two overs and Burchell ripped through the lower order taking three Torrevieja wickets in quick succession. In the midst of those three wickets, Mark Green had taken a contender for catch of the season at slip off the bowling of the impressive Richard Graham. Tivey came back on to polish off the last Torrevieja wicket, all out for 72.

It was a professional performance from Levante whilst trying to hold back their fast bowlers for what would be a tougher game the next day. Tivey was the pick, his 3.2 overs resulting in 3 wickets for just 4 runs. Richard Graham bowled very well to take 2-8 and Burchell as ever chipped in with three wickets. Ogilvie and Miller were only missing luck as they both bowled good spells with little reward. A special mention to Dan Tickel who gave up his bowling responsibilities to keep wicket for the team and produce a very decent display in the process.

In reply, Levante got off to a poor start as Noon back-heeled a very wide delivery onto his own stumps, bringing laughter to the Torrevieja players as they tried to fathom out what had just happened. It would be the only blemish on the scorecard though as fellow opener Green (30no) and Hunt (38no) reached the low target in little over twelve overs.

The Torrevieja bowlers and fielders were not the only ones being punished by Hunt as a hard hit 6 over long on unfortunately landed on Timmy the unsuspecting dog of John Howden. The sombre emotions of all involved was only relinquished when little Timmy had returned from the vets unscathed and ready to help the boys demolish their much deserved bbq.

On to tomorrow's game, a top of the table clash against La Manga.

Thanks to Torrevieja for managing to field a team and to the two umpires as usual. Thanks also to John Hown for scoring and Dave and Marg Moore for providing the teas over both days.

Man of the match would have to be Tivey for his 3-4.
