La Manga II v Levante Cricket Club Levante Lightning T20 on Sat 27 Jun 2015 at 11.00am
Match was Drawn

Match report First bit of good news on Saturday was the punctual arrival of the rest of the Levante `squad´. Then, captain Pete having won the toss and put us in to bat, openers Cesare and Ali set about the La Manga bowling with gusto, scoring steadily to put on a record-breaking 1st wicket stand of 80 before Ali fell - with a fine 52 to his name (including five 4´s and a 6). In came Lofty and the runs continued to flow until, with the score on 107, Cesare was dismissed on 29 (all in 1´s and 2´s !), bringing Graham to the crease. At this point Levante looked set for an impressively high total, but La Manga kept on the pressure and took out the Levante middle order for under 40 runs (107 for 2 - 146 for 7) , Lofty (18) and Graham (15) faring better than Harsha (4), Jaggi (2) and Rich (0). Only Martin (44, seven 4´s) withstood (using reverse sledging to keep the opponents disorientated, until being cautioned by the umpire), finally falling with the score on 178, whereupon it was left to stalwart veterans Dan and Pete (debutante Pradeep having failed to score) to scrabble the total up to a decent (and defendable) 195. Credit to the La Manga bowlers James, R.James and Hunt with 3 wickets apiece for their efforts.
In reply, La Manga got off to a bad start, losing their first wicket
with the score on just 8. The Levante bowlers, however, were unable to capitalise on Rich´s breakthrough and La Manga slowly inched their way out of danger, adding 91 for the second wicket with a tenacious 55 from David Williams, finally caught and bowled by Jaggi. Of the seven levante bowlers only Rich was able to take another La Manga wicket, a rash of dropped catches (multiple culprits) spoiling Levante´s chance of a win, though La Manga never looked in danger of reaching the Levante total.
By not quite reaching 200 runs and failing to reap wickets, Levante came out of the match with a winning draw but only 12 points to La Manga´s 10, a satisfactory result, but the feeling of watching the possibility of maximum points ebb away as catches were spilled and bowlers, though economical, showed a worrying lack of incisiveness against solid batting, will remain. With the prospect of a stronger La Manga side for the next day’s encounter, spirits were high but a sense of unease bordering on foreboding hovered above the Levante camp. Over a sumptuous and well-lubricated BBQ supper (many thanks to WAGS and JAGS for sourcing, preparing and cooking the meal) plans were laid for the impending contest, special attention being shown by Dan and Lofty to the task of getting sufficiently hydrated to withstand the expected heat.
